2020 Programme

 

Covid-19... with regret, we have had to cancel indoor meetings for the foreseeable future. We have been hosting virtual meetings and will continue to do so, with the occasional outdoor get-together thrown in for good measure. See the messages page or social media for updates.

Explore the Past

 Gemma from Craven Museum will share some artefacts with us from the museum's collection.

February 17th

#Show The Love

Inspired by The Climate Coalition's #ShowTheLove campaign, we have invited crafting genius Chrissie Dodd to come along to our meeting on February 17th. Chrissie will help us create beautifully scented, stitched green fabric hearts to wear or share. Existing WI members will have received #ShowTheLove postcards in their January/February copy of WI Life magazine; please bring them along to the meeting. There will be a small additional cost of no more than £2 to help cover materials.

Waste Not, Want Not..

Join North Yorkshire Rotters to find out about reducing food waste, using up leftovers and composting.

2019 Programme

January 21st

Skipton Ukulele Club

 We kick start the year with a visit from the Skipton Ukulele Club. Learn about the instrument & perhaps have a go at strumming a tune for yourself....?

February 18th

Games night 

Join us for fun and games including ‘human  bingo’. There will be plenty of hot chocolate, tea & cake .

March 18th

The Joy of Midlife Adventures.

Jo Moseley will be   sharing the story of how bringing the outdoors and exercise into her life has made a huge difference – from rowing & surfing to ‘plogging’!

April 15th

Fused Glass.

Charlotte Seth is a young artist & entrepreneur. Speaking with her high-tech communication aid & with a bit of support from mum, Helen, she will take us through the process of making a pendant or sun-catcher.*

May 20th

Chinese Brush Painting with Chris Newson.

Learn about Chinese calligraphy & paint plum blossom on a paper fan (ready for another scorching summer?) 

June 17th

Our Annual Meeting & the Great Happy Bundays Bake-off. 

We will be joined by a very special mystery guest for an evening of cake eating, important discussion & decision-making (not least about who might be our very own ‘Star Baker’!)

Women of the First World War 

We are delighted to welcome local expert Floe Shakespeare to our meeting. She is going to tell us all about ‘Women of the First World War’.

Felt Beads

Pop along this evening to try your hand at creating some lovely little felt beads that you can       transform into beautiful jewellery or decorations. 

 

September 16th

Steep & Filter Tea Tasting

We visit Skipton’s wonderful Steep & Filter Craft Coffee & Tea House to taste tea as we have

probably never tasted it before– yum!  Mike will also chat to us about how we might choose to embrace a more            sustainable way of life.

SAS : Plastic Pollution is the ‘new sewage’

Janet Jackson will be telling us about how Surfers Against Sewage are inspiring communities to become plastic free & helping to protect our beautiful beaches.

Get in the mood for Christmas with some ‘me time’ courtesy of The Body Shop at Home and more....

January 15th

Smile and Say Cheese!

Happy Bunday Aless, lecturer in photography at Craven College, is (hopefully) in just an hour or so going to help us all become amazing at taking stunning, professional looking photographs. Bring your camera.

February 19th

Bees

Learn all (you never realised) you need to know about bees and beekeeping. What can we do to help our furry flying friends?

 

March 19th

First Aid

Are you sure you’d know what to do in a medical emergency? A knowledge of first aid could make all the difference. Come along to learn/refresh your skills.

 

April 16th

Ballet Be Fit

Ballet technique works the whole body: lifting bottoms, trimming thighs and defining arms. Yay! Meet at Skipton Health and Fitness for a trial session. Keep an eye on the website for details. (2nd) Birthday beers in the pub afterwards?

 

May 21st

Beads and Bubbles (or beer)

Mrs Bead is joining us with her sweet-shop like collection of beads for an evening of creative crafting. Bubbles (or beer) are an optional extra. There will be a small additional charge for materials. 

June 18th

AGM and some ‘other stuff’

A Happy Bundays ‘Who Am I?’ quiz, a bit of swishing / re-gifting and some getting to know each other activities will soften the evening after our very important, and hopefully short and sweet, AGM.

July 16th

Flower Power 

Susan Dobson from the Bradley-based Yorkshire Dales Flower Company joins us to demonstrate fabulous artisan floristry using her trade mark seasonal home grown flowers, foliage and herbs. Her beautiful creations will be raffled off at the end of the evening.

 

August 20th

A walk with a difference and an end reward!

Let your inner child out as we enjoy a treasure / geocache hunt before rewarding ourselves with lashings of ‘ lemonade’ in the pub. Meet in the church yard at the front of Holy Trinity Church. 

 

September 17th

Bags of Difference

Learn about all this ethical company, and then perhaps treat yourself to a lovely bag made in Uganda from locally sourced materials. 100% of the sale price goes back to source.

 

October 15th

A Good Death?

‘Tis the season of ghosts and ghouls but what do we really think about death and dying? How do we prepare? What should we tell the children? Alison from Settle Death Cafe will talk to us about the cafe, and help us to explore this last taboo in safe and supportive surroundings.

November 19th

FGM

At least 200 million women and girls alive today have been affected by FGM, or cutting. Women’s rights activist Nazzy Amin, talks to us about this and other issues we shouldn’t ignore. 

 

December 10th

Textiles and Tassels.

Super talented knitwear designer, Joan Murray, will tell us about her amazing 30 year career in textiles before teaching us miniature loom weaving and how to make a luxurious tassel or two.
